Learning Communities

At Mission Heights Primary School, students learn within supportive learning communities designed to meet their developmental needs and foster a strong sense of belonging.

Our learning communities encourage collaboration, learner agency, and positive relationships while supporting students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Junior Learning Community (Years 1-3)

Building Strong Foundations

The Junior Learning Community focuses on helping students develop confidence as learners while building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, communication, and wellbeing.

Students are supported to:

• develop positive learning habits;

• build friendships and social skills;

• explore learning through play, inquiry, and structured experiences;

• become increasingly independent learners.

Studios

The Junior Learning Community (JLC) at Mission Heights Primary School caters for Year 1, 2 and 3 students within 5 studios: Water & Earth with our Year 1 students, Wai with our Year 2 students and lastly, Whenua & Ngahere with our Year 3 students. Our studios are on the ground level.

Senior Learning Community (Years 4-6)

Growing Independence and Leadership

The Senior Learning Community supports students to deepen their learning, take greater responsibility, and develop leadership skills.

Students are encouraged to:

• think critically and creatively;

• collaborate effectively with others;

• demonstrate learner agency;

• contribute positively to the school community;

• prepare for successful transitions to intermediate school.

Studios

The Senior Learning Community (SLC) at Mission Heights Primary School caters for Year 4, 5 and 6 students within 4 studios: Forest & Air with our Year 4 students, Fire with our Year 5 students and lastly, Ahi with our Year 6 students. Our studios are on the upper level.
