Welcome to Mission Heights Primary School
We are a primary school serving the Flat Bush community in Manukau Auckland catering for Year 1s to Year 6s. We strive to be a friendly and receptive school, alert to the needs of our young learners and helping them to reach their full potential. We believe forming positive relationships with our parents and our wider community will enable us to achieve this.
Parents are welcome to visit the school. However, school visits are by appointment only so do call reception to confirm your appointment.

Today, our staff came together to celebrate Chinese New Year, taking time to honour the rich cultural traditions that are such an important part of our school community. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, share stories, and celebrate the diversity that makes Mission Heights Primary School such a vibrant place to learn and work.![]()
Chinese New Year is a time of renewal, hope, and togetherness. These values reflect our CARE values of Courage, Action, Respect and Empathy, as we acknowledge and celebrate the languages, cultures and identities of our learners and their whānau.![]()

2026 MHP GTT classes has started with students exploring the different herbs found in our gardens. So we are making herbed butter that can be enjoyed with bread or rice crackers as an afternoon snack. Students are having a great time harvesting our summer produce.
A huge welcome back to our amazing teachers. Lots of teamwork, energy and excitement for 2026. This is what they were up to today!
Back to school Tip #6 Practising everyday school skills can help children feel capable and confident. This might include opening lunchboxes, managing drink bottles, packing bags or organising stationery. Older students benefit from re-establishing independence, while younger or new learners gain reassurance through hands on practice and encouragement.
Back to School Tip #5![]()
Sharing a story together is a powerful way to reconnect with learning. Reading books about school, friendship and belonging supports children who are returning as well as those who are starting somewhere new. Choosing stories that reflect the diverse cultures of our community helps children see school as a place where everyone belongs.![]()
At MHP we place a strong value on reading and we are very lucky to have a wonderful school library that supports this love of learning. We are also excited that a temporary pop up library is scheduled to open in Ormiston Town Centre by late March 2026, operating 55 hours a week near the food court. This interim space will support our community ahead of the planned permanent library and community hub. In the meantime, families can also visit the Mobile Library South and East, the Maui bus, which visits the Ormiston Pak’nSave carpark on Saturdays.
Back to school tip #4 Talking together about what a school day looks like can help children of all ages. You might chat about learning time, play breaks, lunch, friendships and asking for help. Older children may like to talk about goals for the year ahead, while younger or new students may simply enjoy hearing what to expect in a gentle, positive way.

Back to school tip #3 If you are able, spending some time on or around the school grounds before term begins can be very reassuring. Hopefully this wet weather is over soon! Returning students often enjoy reconnecting with familiar spaces, while children and families who are new can begin to develop a sense of belonging. Even a simple walk past the school or a conversation about where things are can help the first day feel calmer and less daunting. There has been a lot of work happening at school over the break and it is exciting to see the new building really coming along.
Back to school Tip #2
Today’s tip is to try a practice run of your school morning routine. Have a go at your usual wake up time, breakfast, packing the school bag and getting dressed so your child can get a feel for how the morning will flow. It does not need to be perfect, the aim is simply to build familiarity so that first day nerves have fewer surprises to feed on.
